By way of assisting the community, they lead a
large Bible study group. They teach the Bible to people who do not know the
Lord, and want to learn more about the teachings of Jesus Christ. My parents
have always asked for supplies to use to prepare Bible Study lessons and other
items to help educate children in the community.
They
got together with four other retired persons who had agreed to set some of
their pension fund aside to lend to the women who are members of the club
“Gbenonkpo’’ “United club”. Unfortunately they never have enough funds available
to satisfy all the women in need.
From
an original membership of less than 50 people in 2002, the “club Gbenonkpo” has
expended to involve more than 400 women today.
It is a problem that I have been aware of and
I have always wanted to help make a contribution to its solution. I know these
people and I know their commitment to succeed in life.
I
came to the U.S in 1988, and it didn’t take me long to discover ways to
help. I began to buy things from flea
markets and tag sales that would help expand my parent’s social assistance and educational mission. Soon, people that I knew
began to help by buying and collecting things for me to send to Benin. The
success of my efforts motivated me to take my work to the next level, and begin
the FARAGEL 2005 Foundation.
The
Foundation was named after my own family.
The “GEL” is derived from my name Germaine –Felicite and my daughter’s
name Gemila, and stands for the generosity and love in The FARAGEL.
It
is my hope that my children and my grandchildren will uphold the legacy of
the FARAGEL 2005 for generation to
come. Each of them has their first name initial as part of the FARAGEL. Using their talents and leadership skills, I
believe that they will find creative ways
to positively impact the growth of the FARAGEL 2005 Foundation and in doing so will learn the
importance in helping others in need.
